Eight rooms, one narrow street, and a 9th-century church for a neighbour. St. Lazarus City Hotel sits in the dead centre of Larnaca old town — not a chain, not a script, just a good bed close to everything that matters.
Every room here opens onto the same few streets that have surrounded Agios Lazaros since the 9th century — stone arcades, orange trees, a square that still empties out at siesta. We built this place to sit quietly inside that, not compete with it.
We haven't dressed every room the same, and we won't pretend to on this page either. Each one has its own character — pick by what matters to you: balcony, budget, or space.
Our largest standard room, with a private balcony looking straight at the church tower, tea and kettle station, and warm autumn-toned art. A good pick if you want space to spread out.
Small, and worth it for one reason: the window looks straight across to the bell tower of Agios Lazaros. Best view in the house.
Warm, neutral, and unfussy, with its own balcony over the rooftops and a wooden ceiling fan alongside the air conditioning.
Three rooms sharing one calm, uncluttered design — dark headboard, soft linens, each individually decorated with its own artwork and bedspread tone.
Our value option: a comfortable room with a window that lets in natural light but doesn't open — a fire safety requirement — so air circulation is handled by mechanical ventilation. Same comfort, smaller price.
Compact and single-bedded, built for one. No balcony, no fuss — just a clean, quiet place to land in the old town.
A whitewashed old-town house with the cobalt window grilles typical of the neighbourhood, on a quiet residential street two minutes from the church.
A bright common lounge for coffee, breakfast snacks, or just somewhere to sit that isn't your room — plus the entry hallway that welcomes you in.
What several of our rooms actually look out on — Agios Lazaros Square, stone arcades, and the bell tower itself.
The old town isn't a taxi ride from here — it's the street outside. This is genuinely one of the most central addresses in Larnaca: Agios Lazaros square, the Byzantine Museum, and Finikoudes promenade are all close enough that a car never enters the conversation.
Agios Lazaros Square isn't a photo stop you pass through — it's the square this hotel sits on. The church itself was built by the Byzantine Emperor Leo VI in the late 9th century, over what's believed to be the second tomb of Lazarus of Bethany, the biblical figure said to have been raised from the dead and who later became the first Bishop of Kition, as Larnaca was then known.
The bell tower guests see from our balconies was rebuilt in the 17th century — Ottoman rule had forbidden one for years. Inside, a gold-leafed Baroque iconostasis, carved by hand in the late 1700s, still stands. Entry to the church is free, and the crypt is open to visitors most of the day.
The stone arcade and courtyard directly across from several of our rooms — quiet mornings, busier at dusk when the square fills for evening walks.
Larnaca's palm-lined seafront, five minutes on foot — cafés, the harbour, and the start of the coastal walk toward the marina.
Two minutes away, housed in the church's own grounds — icons and ecclesiastical art spanning several centuries.
A short drive away, and worth the trip in winter — thousands of migrating flamingos gather here between November and March, near the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque. Local legend even ties the lake to Saint Lazarus himself.
Guests consistently mention how easy the self check-in process is — even landing late at night, letting yourself in without waiting on anyone works the way it's supposed to.
The most repeated theme: central without being loud. Close enough to walk everywhere, quiet enough to actually sleep.
Rooms are regularly described as feeling new and well cared for, with comfortable bedding guests weren't expecting at this price point.
